ELLIPTIC THEATER

The design of Elliptic Theater is inspired by baroque architecture to create a theatrical atmosphere in a condensed vertical space. The elliptic layout prototype combined with staircases in open form stimulates the dynamic of movement and interaction.

The relation between performer and audience is blurred with interchangeable experiences. The ambiguity in the spatial form facilitates flexibility and spontaneous moment. With Limited and reconstructible intervention, we aim for maximum preservation of the church relic, including, architectural elements, views, and orientation of the building.

The Elliptic Theater is not a closed shrine. It engages in daily life by semi-open buildings, cafe, bar, meeting space, and placemaking on the exterior space with the surrounding. The architecture creates a new anchor for locals and an attraction for visitors.
